Imodium (loperamide) capsules are used to treat sudden (acute) diarrhea, traveler's diarrhea, and chronic diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel disease or ileostomy.
It works by slowing down an overactive bowel, reducing the number of bowel movements and making stools less watery.

Acute Diarrhea: Provides rapid relief for short-term diarrhea, including symptoms from food poisoning or stomach viruses.
Traveler’s Diarrhea: Effective for treating diarrhea occurring during travel.
Chronic Diarrhea: Used under medical guidance for long-term diarrhea linked to conditions like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
Ileostomy Care: Reduces the volume of discharge for individuals with an ileostomy.

Common Dosage (Adults & Children 12+)
Initial Dose: 4 mg (two 2mg capsules) followed by 2 mg (one capsule) after each loose stool.
Maximum Dose: Do not exceed 16 mg (8 capsules) in 24 hours, or 12 mg (6 capsules) for certain conditions like IBS.
Warnings
Do not use if diarrhea is accompanied by a high fever, or if stools are black, bloody, or tarry.
Common side effects include constipation, dizziness, and nausea. Ensure adequate hydration (fluids) during treatment.
