Hepa-Merz (L-ornithine-L-aspartate) is a prescription medicine used to treat liver diseases associated with high ammonia levels, including acute/chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver, and hepatic encephalopathy.
It reduces blood ammonia by enhancing the urea cycle.
Key Uses & Information
- Liver Support: Used to treat impaired detoxification activity in cirrhosis and related disorders.
- Mechanism: Contains amino acids L-ornithine and L-aspartate that lower elevated ammonia levels and help regenerate damaged liver cells.
- Dosage (Granules): Commonly 1 sachet (3g) up to 3 times a day.
- Dosage (Syrup): Adults often take two teaspoons (30ml) twice daily.
- Side Effects: Rarely, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or diarrhea may occur.

- It works as a "detoxifier" for the liver by increasing urea synthesis. Always follow a doctor's recommendation for dosage, especially for children.
