Exforge HCT is a combination prescription tablet used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) by combining three active ingredients; amlodipine, valsartan, and hydrochlorothiazide; to relax blood vessels, block narrowing substances, and increase urine output. It is generally taken once daily to manage blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack.
Common Uses and Efficacy
Hypertension Management: Specifically for patients not adequately controlled by dual therapy.
Additive Effect: The combination works more effectively than individual components in treating moderate to severe hypertension.
Dosing: Taken once daily, with or without food. Doses may be increased after two weeks, with the maximum dose being 10/320/25 mg (amlodipine/valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide).
Important Safety Information
Warnings: Exforge HCT is contraindicated in pregnancy (can cause fetal harm) and should not be used by nursing mothers.
Side Effects: Common side effects include dizziness, ankle swelling (edema), headache, indigestion, fatigue, and muscle spasms.
Drug Interactions: Avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes.Renal/Hepatic Impairment: Not for use in severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min).
