Description
Nevanac (nepafenac 0.1%) eye drops are a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat eye pain and inflammation following cataract surgery.
They are also used to reduce the risk of macular edema (swelling) in diabetic patients after cataract surgery. Typically, one drop is applied to the affected eye three times daily.
Key Information & Usage
Purpose: Treats post-cataract surgery pain/inflammation and prevents macular edema.
Dosage: Generally, one drop 3 times a day (morning, midday, evening), often beginning one day prior to surgery and continuing up to 2-3 weeks post-operatively.
Administration: Shake well before use. If using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between applying Nevanac and the other medication.
Contact Lenses: Do not use contact lenses during treatment as they can discolour and the preservative (benzalkonium chloride) can damage them.
Important Precautions & Side Effects
Side Effects: Common side effects include temporary blurred vision, eye discomfort, itchy eye, foreign body sensation, and increased tear production.
Warnings: Avoid sunlight exposure. Use with caution if you have bleeding tendencies, diabetes, or rheumatoid arthritis.
Allergic Reaction: Tell your doctor if you are allergic to NSAIDs (like aspirin, ibuprofen).
Usage: For eye use only. Do not swallow or inject.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember, but skip it if it is almost time for your next dose. Keep out of reach of children.
