About
Norfloxacin is a quinolone carboxylic acid antibacterial agent for oral administration. Norfloxacin is bactericidal. At the molecular level, three specific actions have been attributed to norfloxacin in the inhibition of E.coli cells.
Indication
It is used to treat some bacterial infections, such as : Urinary tract infections (uncomplicated urinary tract infections including cystitis and complicated urinary tract infections) - Sexually transmitted diseases (uncomplicated urethral and cervical gonorrhea due to Neisseria gonorrhea) - Prostatitis (due to Escherichia coli) .
Side Effects
- Nausea • headache • dizziness. • Severe stomach pain • symptoms of severe sunburn, such as redness, itching, pain, swelling or blistering • pain, tenderness, swelling, or redness of muscles, joints or tendons • pain, burning, tingling, numbness, and/or weakness in your arms or legs • bleeding or bruising more easily than normal, nose bleeds • signs of anaemia, such as tiredness, being short of breath and looking pale • numbness or tingling in fingers or toes • any signs of mental disturbance, such as confusion or hallucinations • worsening of myasthenia gravis symptoms • visual disturbances • changes in your hearing • decreased feeling or sensitivity, especially in the skin.
Drug Interactions
Nitrofurantoin , erythromycin , theophylline , cyclosporin , warfarin , glibenclamide , probenecid , , tricyclic antidepressants , non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs , iron or zinc supplements, and multivitamins containing them , antacids , sucralfate , didanosine .
When not to Use
Do not take if - You have an allergy to Norfloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics or any of the ingredients listed. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to Norfloxacin may include itchiness, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat (which may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing), muscle pain or tenderness, or joint pain. - You are pregnant or breast-feeding. - You have had pain, inflammation or rupture of tendons after taking quinolone antibiotics
Precaution
During therapy with this medicine, patients should be reminded to drink sufficient amounts of fluids to maintain adequate hydration in order to avoid possible development of crystalluria.
