About

Amlodipine and Valsartan are antihypertensive compounds with complementary mechanisms to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. The combination of these substances has an additive antihypertensive effect, reducing blood pressure to a greater degree than either component alone.

Indication

It is indicated for the treatment of Hypertension.

Side Effects

Common : Viral infections, neutropenia, hyperkalemia, dizziness, postural dizziness, vertigo, hypotension, orthostatic hypotension, renal failure and impairment.Uncommon : Upper respiratory tract infection, pharyngitis, sinusitis, insomnia, decreased libido, syncope, vertigo, cardiac failure, hypotension, cough, diarrhea, abdominal pain, back pain, fatigue, asthenia, headache and oedema. Rare : Dizziness.

Drug Interactions

Antihypertensive agents , grapefruit or grapefruit juice , CYP3A4 inhibitors (protease inhibitors, azole antifungals, macrolides like erythromycin or clarithromycin, verapamil or diltiazem) , CYP3A4 inducers (e.g. rifampicin, Hypericum perforatum) , Simvastatin , Lithium , Potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, salt substitutes containing potassium , NSAIDs , (rifampicin, cyclosporine) or efflux transporter (ritonavir) , Sildenafil.

When not to Use

Do not take losartan potassium if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in in the list.

Precaution

Patients with primary hyperaldosteronism should not be treated with valsartan as their renin-angiotensin system is not activated.
